s+r – Self Tanners

St. Tropez worked for me few times and didn’t sometimes. It was also a lot of work for me. So I did some research and decided to give it another shot in trying out some other self tanners.

These self tanners below are a lot less maintenance. You just apply like lotion and they got great reviews!

The Face and Body Gradual TanLa Mer Soleil de la Mer ‘s The Face and Body Gradual Tan for $85. Received all amazing reviews. The downfall is the price tag, but this amount should last you a summer’s worth [if not more] on average.

Dior - Dior Bronze Self-Tanner Natural Glow FaceDior Bronze Self-Tanning Natural Glow for Face for $33. Most all great reviews with minor disapproval.

Guerlain - Terracotta Spray SPF 10Guerlain Terracotta Spray Light SPF 10 for $62

Guerlain Terracotta Sunless Tinted Self-Tanning Gel for $52.

s+r – St. Tropez Self Tan

St. Tropez Tanning Essentials - Self Tan Bronzing Lotion FaceSt. Tropez Tanning Essentials - Self Tan Bronzing Mousse

Every year I say that I’m not going to tan and just wear sunblock throughout the summer; which is so healthy! That never works. I always get a full on tan on vacation and that tan usually lasts me months. This year is different since I will be home with our first newborn baby soon [next month]! So I decided to try out St.Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Lotion Face for $30.

I’ve heard amazing things about St. Tropez and was excited to give it a try. I only wanted to use it on my face because my whole body would be way too much work for myself. Self tanning takes a lot of work and dedication! It was tough for me with just my face and neck!

Everyone highly suggests the St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse for $42 and it gets great reviews. There’s a lot of tutorials and reviews online and on youtube. I should have got the mousse too. The one I got, the Bronzing Lotion Face, got bad reviews saying there was no difference and didn’t last long. But I did get the Bronzing Lotion Face to work well for me.

After dinner, I took a shower and exfoliated my face. I put nothing on my face at all. I put on gloves and put on a generous amount of the product on my face, hairline, ears, neck, and a little of my chest. This product is brown so I was able to see it on my pale self. It did look a little streaky, but everyone said the St. Tropez products do not look streaky when all finished so I trusted that. I let it set for a while, let it dry, and then went to sleep with it all night. The next morning, I gently washed my face with a soft face wash because this product is notorious for washing off. I gently put my products on my face, for example, I padded my toner on my face rather than swiping with a cotton pad. And viola I had a nice, non orange, natural looking tan! It worked!!

I think the reason why it worked for me is because I kept the product on for so long. That’s the only way I would do it. You’re going to bed, who cares how weird you look!

The downfall is that this product only lasted few days and then faded. So it is a lot of maintenance!! I wonder if I’ll be able to keep this up once a week. That seems like a lot of work!! I do face masks twice a week and a hair mask once a week, but these are a lot easier than self tanning because if you’re not extra careful self tanners can get messy. When I went to sleep with the product, even though the self tan was all dry, I still didn’t put the covers near my chest and I tried not to sleep on my face.

I suggest these St. Tropez self tanning products because the smell isn’t potent [but it does have a little smell], it’s obviously very healthy for you instead of the actual sun [wear more sunscreen!], but most importantly it gives you a nice looking tan.

I did the same procedure last night [shower, exfoliate, let the self tan set and dry before going to sleep with it, kept it on for 12 hours, was gentle on my face this morning] and woke up this morning to no tan. I guess it works sometimes?! Er……

s+r – La Mer Lip Balm

I have really sensitive lips. I’m peeling them [I know I'm nasty] all the time and all year round. I needed to find a really good lip balm that stopped my lips from peeling which felt impossible after years of searching.

I was loyal to CO Bigelow’s Mentha Lip Shine for $8 for the longest time. I used the strong Mentha tube which not only freshened my breath, but it made my lips feel tingly in a good way. The Mentha one is very strong which I love.

I used EOS for $3.50 for a while. It’s the easiest to use! I LOVE how you just apply it straight to your lips. It was SUPER convenient. It was good, but it still had me peeling and pulling on my lips.

I never tried Jack Black for $7.50 even though I heard amazing things about it! Heard men love this too.

I heard of La Mer’s Lip Balm for $50 and the rave about how this product truly works. After a couple years, I finally caved in and recently tried it for myself. I did have high hopes and true to other great testimonies, it does work! It has a soft mint feel which is nice. I don’t love how you have to apply it with your fingers, but oh well. I love that it is not sticky or shiny, but gets the job done which is to smoothen and help heal my lips from cracking and peeling. It’s definitely an investment that I am happy with. This lip balm will last you a very long time.

I did hear amazing things about By Terry for $60 and Sisley for $72, but I didn’t want to dish out another $10-$20 [from the $50]. I would swear by Sisley products and they are totally worth every penny, but it’s just expensive. After I use up my La Mer, I will try the Sisley Nutritive Lip Balm!

Personal – L’amour Fou

L'amour fou (2010) Poster

I just watched L’amour Fou [2010] and next to watch is Yves Saint Laurent [2014].

YSL is my first favorite designer. I did full on reports on him during college which allowed me to gain more knowledge and respect for him. I would look in magazines and check who the designer was for the outfits that I loved, and it was YSL a lot. That is how he became my favorite designer. [Hermes is my favorite "brand". It was founded by Thierry Hermes in 1800s for horses and then switched in 1900s by a non Hermes designer so I wouldn't necessarily say Hermes is my favorite "designer". Plus I love the brand, accessories, and timeless aura more than the clothes.]

imoin – Francesco Russo

Francesco Russo debuted his 25 style shoe line and it’s absolutely brilliant! He can be found in his boutique in Paris or Bergdorf Goodman in New York. He worked with Costume National, Miu Miu, Tom Ford, and House of YSL before debuting on his own.

Personal – Bergdorf’s

I just watched the documentary, Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s. Nothing beats BG. It was nice to see familiar faces, people I worked with, and the same guy for employee training! lol

I absolutely fell in love with BG in college. I tried so hard to get my internship there, but failed. I did get my first job right out of FIT at BG’s Personal Shopping Department. Being a personal shopper and or a wardrobe stylist is what feeds my soul. I love that way more than being a stylist. I graduated in May of 2008 and started working. I loved working there!

At first, my boss would give me full on projects myself just after the first couple months there. She had confidence in me, and it was great! Even though I was her 2nd assistant, her clients would ask me for their opinion. Maybe they just wanted a younger opinion. Then that same mid/late 40 year old boss started to bully me, and that was that. I quit. The end. :/

I wish I was still working at Bergdorf’s, but don’t regret leaving because I wasn’t getting treated like a human being. I would prefer to work for their magazine, but nothing feeds my soul than Personal Shopping.
